Liverpool Set For European Exit?

A 2-1 defeat at home to Lyon last night (October 20th) has seen bookmakers shorten their odds on Liverpool suffering the ignominy of an early exit from the Champions League.

Rafa Benitez’s side are now 8/11 with William Hill to fail to qualify for the knockout stages in Europe following their fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions.

With Liverpool enduring their worst run of results since 1987, the sports betting firm is offering 5/4 on Benitez leaving the club before the end of the season.

The Merseyside outfit’s odds of winning the Champions League have been pushed out to 20/1 by William Hill, with Barcelona still favourites at 10/3 despite losing 2-1 at home to Rubin Kazan last night.

Following defeats by Fiorentina, Chelsea and Sunderland, the Lyon result leaves Liverpool struggling badly for confidence ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester United at Anfield.

Paddy Power makes Liverpool 7/4 to win that game, with a United victory priced at 6/4 and a draw available at 9/4.
